KARACHI, PAKISTAN:

A clip of a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane landing at an inundated runway at Karachi airport went viral on Monday, following the port city’s rampant flooding.

The popular video has received much attention from news channels, politicians and Pakistani social media users.

The 10-second video clip shows a PIA plane landing on a runway submerged in water. The viral video was aired by several private media channels, gracing television screens and tabloid pages alike.

Politician Fawad Chaudhry, too, shared the video to point out the grave infrastructural issues in Karachi.

However, the official Twitter account of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has offered a clarification. CAA took to Twitter to mark that the viral video is nearly three years old and that there has been no drainage issue at the Karachi airport since.

“An old video is being flushed around on social media that shows an airplane moving on a runway covered in water. Please note that this is an old video, nearly 3 years old, and does not depict the present situation at Karachi's JIAP, which is normal, with drains working normally,” CAA tweeted.
