Rawalpindi Cantt getting facelift

Official says since Mall Road, Peshawar Road are faces of Cantt, they would be given improved look

With an aim to improve the overall look of the area, the Cantonment Board Rawalpindi has launched a sponsored beautification plan.

Work has started across Mall Road Saddar and from Kachehri Chowk to Peshawar Road in accordance with the plan.

The plan includes renovation of Center Median, upgradation of sidewalks, re-modeling of green belts, new plantation, re-painting of walls, patchwork on roads and front site of Mall road buildings, and also weather sheet painting. This plan aims to give a brand new look to both Mall Road and Peshawar Road.

A huge clock tower has also been installed on the wall on Telegraph Chowk. Whenever the traffic stops at Telegraph Chowk, passersby do look at the clock at least once. This unique clock tower has gained public attention.

According to Cantonment Executive Officer, Imran Gulzar, the Cantonment Board Rawalpindi has developed a beautification plan in Cantt that will be fully sponsored by private entities. The CEO said that he aims to bring about a new and impressive look in Cantt under the beautification plan. In this regard, various beautification projects are underway.

He further said that, since Mall Road and Peshawar Road are the faces of Cantt, they will be given an improved look. He said that the slogan of ‘Keep Cantt Clean and Green’ is also being put into practice under which separate tasks will be assigned to sanitation and horticulture departments.

Gulzar said that work is also being carried out in Saddar, RA Bazaar, Chungi No. 22, Dhok Syedan Road, Misryal Road, Tench Bhatta, and People's Colony. Street lights, sidewalks, roads, streets, and the sewerage system are all being repaired.
