The city administration sprang into action in the Federal Capital (FC) Area along the Gujar Nullah and started the process of clearing the important storm drain of the city to prevent its water from entering nearby homes.

FC Area residents appreciated the efforts of the authorities and departments concerned for swift clearing of the nullah which was posing a serious threat of urban flooding.

Meanwhile, monsoon rains swept through the city on Thursday, overflowing drains and sewerage lines in many areas, besides creating massive traffic jams.

Moderate to heavy showers caused urban flooding in a few places. The highest rainfall of 41 millimeters was recorded in Surjani Town.

KMC and other civic bodies including the cantonment boards of the city were busy with dewatering operations as the heavens continued to dump more water on the city.

Three people were electrocuted in separate incidents. Ishaq Zulfiqar, 15, received a fatal electric shock from a broken power line lying in the water on a street near a filling station in the Dhoraji area, the Bahdurabad police station officials said. Muzammil, 13, was electrocuted when he touched the iron gate of his home. Meanwhile, Syed Musharraf died of electric shock in his home in the Korangi area.
