The Provincial Election Commissioner of Sindh Aijaz Anwer Chohan has asked the concerned officers to prepare a comprehensive plan within 2 weeks for conduct of the local government elections in nine districts of Hyderabad division on July 24. He was chairing a meeting in Hyderabad on Saturday to discuss and review preparedness for the upcoming second phase of the LG polls in the province.
The Commissioner Hyderabad Nadeem-ur- Rehman Memon, District Returning Officers, deputy commissioners and SSPs, Commandant Qasim Rangers, Chief Executive Officer of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company and the education and education works officers attended the meeting.
The PEC emphasized on the need of strict implementation over the code of conduct of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for conducting free, fair and transparent polls. He underscored that the role of social media could not be shrugged off as any shortcoming on part of the ECP can go viral in the media.
Chohan directed the DCs, DROs and law enforcement agencies to appoint focal persons to maintain coordination among the concerned departments. He asked the officers to update the lists of very sensitive and sensitive polling stations which exist in every district of the division.
