3 awarded death sentences for kidnapping, murdering child

Accused demanded Rs30m for 10-year-old’s release; due to refusal by family, they killed him

An Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) in Quetta on Thursday awarded the death sentences to three accused involved in the kidnapping and murder of a minor child.

ATC Judge Abdul Majeed Nasar announced the judgment regarding the conviction of the three accused.

According to court sources, three accused identified as Dawood Shehzad, Mehdi and Iftikhar were awarded the death sentence twice in the kidnapping and murder case of a 10-year-old child. Zahid Ali Khan, the deputy district prosecutor, presented the case in court on behalf of the government.

The accused had kidnapped a 10-year-old Sher Ali Hazara from Quetta's Hazara Town. The incident happened on February 10, 2021. The accused had demanded a ransom of Rs30 million from the family members of the child.

The parents and other family members had refused to pay the ransom amount. Subsequently, the dead body of the minor child was found in Saranan, Pishin district. The Levies force shifted the body to district headquarters hospital Pishin and then handed it over to the heirs.

The incident had caused an outrage on social media with people demanding of the police and Levies force to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to justice. Police had registered a case against the accused in the Brewery police station.

After the announcement of the judgment, police shifted them to the Quetta District Jail.
