Students preparing for Summer Regatta

The talented students of the Kiran Foundation and The Citizens Foundation schools began their preparations to compete at the Summer Regatta this year.

The students are being groomed to become the top rowers for Pakistan under the supervision of Karachi Boat Club (KBC).

KBC's School Outreach Program (SOP) 2022 has been training 50 students this year, while the initiative began in 2021.

The focus to train the youth through SOP is to provide opportunities to the talented and aspiring rowers for free of cost and enable them to participate and win in the future events.

The program is being conducted on coach-mentor basis that can be create a healthy ecosystem for student rowers to coach the newer entrants in the program.

Besides rowing the youth are also encouraged to come up with ideas and solutions for developing financial sustainability for the future prospects.

"The training of the students in the 2022 began on June 25. The programme will run till July 31 culminating in a milestone event where student compete in the annual Summer Regatta. During the six-week programme the rowers will focus on training on land, the ergometer (indoor rowing) and on water (outdoor rowing)," KBC explained in the press release.

The KBC further clarified that the students trained on land, then were introduced to the rowing machine and also underwent a swimming test along. They will be taken out on the boats for more exposure to the sport in the coming week under the supervision of the coaches. The program is meant to help the student rowers not only for just six weeks but to go beyond and sustain throughout the year.
