The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday served a notice on Punjab Home Minister Attaullah Tarar for violating its Code of Conduct by attending the electoral campaign for upcoming by-polls in the province.
The electoral watchdog noted that the provincial minister participated in the election campaign in two constituencies of Jhang on June 27 and 28.
It highlighted that no public office holder could participate in electoral campaigns as per the ECP rules.
Noting that his participation in the said campaign was a violation of the Code of Conduct, the ECP summoned Tarar on July 1 for clarification.
The provincial minister has been asked to present his position before the commission in person or through his representative till 2pm.
It also stated that if the provincial minister did not appear before it within the stipulated time, legal action would be taken as per the Constitution of Pakistan.
