To combat hate speech and harassment, Valorant to start monitoring your voice chats from July 13

Valorant’s developer, Riot Games will start monitoring the voice chats of its users from July 13. The move will help the company in training the language models which will eventually be evaluating participant experiences in all video games.

This new move was part of the new privacy policy which was announced by the Riot Games in April 2021.

In a statement on the website, Riot games say, “In order for us to take action against players who use voice comms to harass others, use hate speech, or otherwise disrupt your experience, we need to know what those players are saying. This is why moving forward we’ll need the ability to analyze voice data”.

According to The Verge, as of now, Riot Games will only evaluate the English- speaking players in North America. The only way to not let the voice chate be monitored is by disabling the voice chat and using any other mode of communication like Discord. Moreover, Riot games said that it won’t “actively monitor your live game comms” and will “only potentially listen to and review voice logs when disruptive voice behavior is reported.”

Riot Games has been introducing different ways to control the disruptive behaviour that happens through its platforms. The company will update its users with future plans in the coming months.
