KARACHI:

Collection of sacrificial animal hides during Eidul Azha is not as simple in Karachi as it is in other cities of Pakistan, so to counter the threats of violence, harassment and hide snatching, Sindh IGP has ordered police top brass to prepare a security plan.

The contingency plan for Eid ul Azha, 2022 should be prepared and sent for review on a priority basis to implement the code of conduct for the collection of hides of sacrificial animals and enforce all security measures to ensure the protection of life and property of the people, IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon said in instructions sent to senior police officers.

Memon said that all registered welfare and social organisations, madrassas, and other such bodies are bound to follow the code of conduct for the collection of hides announced by the Sindh government. “Other stakeholders would also be bound by the conditions of the code of conduct issued,” he said adding that the permits for the collection and transfer of hides of the sacrificial animals and other necessary documents will be a part of the contingency plan.

The IGP said that under the Eid ul Azha security plan, steps would be taken at all levels to implement the orders issued from time to time from the Central Command and Control Center at the Central Police Office so that suspicious activity during the collection of the hides could be detected through recce, surveillance and monitoring and that timely prevention of possible nefarious intentions could be made possible.

In addition, in this regard, measures such as the interconnection of zonal, district control rooms and wireless control rooms of police stations established in the city should also be made highly coordinated and effective. He said that the lists of all mosques, imam bargahs, Eid venues and other open places for Eid prayers in the province should be reviewed and divided into categories and that not only the relevant police but also the deployment of police commandos would be informed. The plan will also detail the responsibilities of SSPs, SPs, SDPOs and SHOs.

The IGP said that under the security plan, surveillance teams of personnel dressed in civilian clothing should also be part of the team. They should be deployed inside and outside the shopping centres, crowded public places, cattle markets, allocated parking lots and Eid prayer venues
