CM vows to implement rights conventions

Discusses matters related to GSP Plus with review mission

LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz has assured a European Union review mission of complete implementation of all conventions relating to a preferential trade status.

Matters pertaining to the implementation of different conventions relating to GSP Plus came under detailed discussion during a meeting of the CM with an EU GSP Plus Review Mission delegation headed by Guus Houttuin.

According to an official statement, the chief minister redressed the apprehensions of the review mission.

He apprised the head of the EU review mission about his foremost priority to safeguard the rights of the women, minorities and other downtrodden segments of the society.

He underscored that vigorous work had been done for the provision of equal rights to the weak segments during the tenure of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as the chief minister of the province. Child labour had been abolished from the brick kilns and 85,000 children had been admitted to schools and imparted free education along with monthly scholarships. The CM emphasised that the protection of women, minorities and weak segments is part of his government's priorities.

He said a new local government system had been approved by the Punjab Assembly, adding that reserved seats had been enhanced for the women, minorities and the youth.
