Directed by a Pakistani, Ms Marvel has successfully brought together brown communities globally and given recognition to local Pakistani artists, the latest being designer Mohsin Naveed Ranjha. The lahore-based couturier received a nod in Disney’s latest outing, having his bridal ensemble featured on one of the characters, Tyesha Hillman.
Tyesha, played by Travina Singer, is the fianceé of Kamala Khan’s (Iman Vellani) brother, Aamir Khan. The third episode features a classic Pakistani wedding where Kamala is seen dancing to Dil Bole Hadippa for her brother and his wife. Soon after the episode came out, Mohsin took to Instagram to reveal that Tyesha, the bride in the episode, was dressed in his bridal couture. The actor donned a stunning pastel green kameez and sharara combination adorned with handcrafted designs, symbolic of Pakistani culture.
Sharing a clip from the episode, the designer captioned the post, “Proud to be representing Pakistan on screen in the latest episode of Ms Marvel with our festive outfit donned by actor Travina Springer. Thanks to Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Marvel for this opportunity and for putting us Pakistanis and our culture on the map.”
Mohsin’s work has transcended borders previously as well, with the designer dressing Bollywood stars like Ranveer Singh and Huma Qureshi. His work has also reached Hollywood, with his creations being worn by television personality Tan France in the past. One of his latest projects included designing outfits for a few of the members from team Joyland that walked the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival 2022.
