ISLAMABAD:

The health authorities urged the public on Wednesday to adopt caution against the Covid-19, particularly during the upcoming Eidul Azha, following the guidelines issued by the relevant authorities in this regard.

Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel chaired a meeting on the Covid-19 situation, at the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) at the National Institute of Health (NIH), and reviewed the pandemic situation in the country.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Drugs Regulation Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and relevant officials from the provincial governments and local administrations.

On the occasion, National Coordinator Maj-Gen Aamer Ikram gave an overview regarding the Covid-19 situation and vaccination status in the country. He informed the meeting that 85% population of the country was fully vaccinated, while 93% was partially vaccinated.

The minister appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders, healthcare staff, and vaccination teams. “It is encouraging to see that 100% eligible population in Sindh is fully vaccinated,” the minister told the meeting. He advised the provinces to boost the vaccination process.

Noting that the Covid positivity ratio was less than 2%, the minister stressed the need for remaining vigilant. “The Central Health Establishment (CHE) should strengthen itself and enhance its functionality,” he emphasised.

He particularly called for strictly monitoring the health status of incoming passengers at points of entry. On the occasion, non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) and other measures to curb the spread of the virus were also discussed.

The minister laid stress on the importance of precautions, including social distancing and the wearing of mask, especially in crowded places.

Patel highlighted the need for strictly following the guidelines for management of markets during the Eidul Azha festivities.
