Prices of various brands of spices, toothpaste, dishwashing liquid, matches, and other items have been increased at Utility Stores across the country, according to an official notification issued on Wednesday.
The notification stated that the price of one kilo mixed pickle has increased by Rs55 to Rs333 from Rs278 per kilogramme. The price of matches has also increased by Rs10, taking the rate of one pack up from Rs40 to Rs50. The price of glass window cleaner has gone up from Rs200 to Rs243, registering an increase of Rs43.
Similarly, the price of a dishwashing sponge has increased by Rs66, luxury-size tissue paper packs by Rs25, and toilet paper rolls by Rs5. The price of branded toothbrush has increased from Rs117 to Rs137, and branded toothpaste from Rs97 to Rs117.
On the other hand, the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) spokesperson said in a statement that the Utility Stores would continue to ensure supply of food items at reduced rates to provide relief to the people.
On the special directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he said, the USC is providing a subsidy on basic food items at all Utility Stores across the country.
He also said that 30 companies supplying goods to Utility Stores have increased the prices of 952 items, and the prices of various pulses have also been increased.
He stated that the increase was being made after the holy month of Ramazan. The prices of these items had been kept stable since September last year, he added.
He pointed out that USC did not manufacture or produce commodities itself.
“When prices rise in general market, Utility Stores also have to revise prices to improve demand and supply and make these products available,” he added.
