A Moscow court on Monday rejected the appeal filed by Meta Platforms Inc after it was labelled an ‘extremist’ entity by a lower court. The court found Meta guilty for ‘extremist activities’ in Russia.

Russian authorities restricted access to social media platforms Facebook and Twitter in the month of March. Initially, Facebook was banned for restructuring access to Russian media.

Later, when Meta allowed its users in Ukraine to post actively regarding the war, Instagram was also banned.

According to Forbes, while the social media platforms are banned, WhatsApp messenger is still working. Moreover, people can still use these apps through a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

For now, Meta has not made any comment on the situation.
