Actor, comedian Masood Khawaja passes away at 55

Performer breathed his last at Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi, he was fighting a kidney disease

Masood Khawaja, renowned actor and comedian known for his show Khawaja Online, passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 55.

Khawaja was suffering from a kidney disease and had been on dialysis for six months. Doctors had recommended him to get a kidney transplant. He was under treatment at a private hospital before eventually being moved to Holy Family Hospital, where he breathed his last.

Three days ago, in his last interview on television, Khwaja had appealed to the government for aid in his treatment, after being advised to get a kidney transplant. Khawaja also known as Goga is survived by his wife, son and two daughters. Details of his funeral will be decided after his son’s return from the United Kingdom where he studies.

The stand-up comedian rose to fame with his early days on PTV and theatre. Following the steps of his brothers Tanveer and Saleem Khawaja, he quickly made his name on television. Guest House, which aired on PTV, was one of his most popular dramas. He wrote, acted and directed hundreds of plays as well. 

Khawaja had last performed in a stage drama at Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) a few days ago. Fans and media fraternity took to twitter to pay their respects and mourn the grave loss. Sharing edits from his comedy skits and anecdotes, social media users honoured Khawaja by remembering his contributions.
