NA-245 by-polls on July 27

The Karachi seat fell vacant because of the death of MNA Aamir Liaquat Hussain earlier this month

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Friday the schedule for the by-election on NA-245, Karachi seat, which fell vacant because of the death of National Assembly member Aamir Liaquat Hussain earlier this month.

According to the schedule, nomination papers for the by-election would be available from June 22 to 24, while the final list of candidate would be announced on June 25. The contesting candidates would be allotted election symbols on July 7 and the voting will be held on July 27.

The ECP had appointed Syed Nadeem Haider as the Returning Officer for NA-245 by-election. In view of the elections, the ECP has also banned development works and transfers of officials within the limits of NA-245 constituency.

In the 2018 general election, Aamir Liaquat Hussain, 50,was elected from the NA-245 on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket. The popular television host and politician passed away at his residence on June 9.
