Another milestone: UK-based Boiler Room is set to host its first broadcast from Pakistan

Set to go live on June 20, Monday, the broadcast will feature Natasha Noorani, Ustad Noor Bakhsh, among others

UK’s online music broadcasting platform Boiler Room, which commissions and streams live music sessions from around the world is hosting its first broadcast from Pakistan and we could not be happier!

The official announcement on Boiler Room's Instagram handle called the move "a show to celebrate the country's new emergent dance music community and its native heritage of live performance." The event is part-funded by the British Council with support and execution from Dialled In, an art festival that celebrates South Asians with music.

District 19 has confirmed it will be hosting the broadcast launch on June 20. “The best is yet to come. Collaborators and details will be shared soon but for now, let’s celebrate,” organisers announced on Insta. The event will be live-streamed on the Boiler Room website at 7pm Pakistan Time (PKT) and 3pm British Summer Time (BST) for viewers and listeners in the UK.

Boiler Room announced on Thursday that the platform’s debut in the country is set to feature a treasure trove of artists, including Balochi Benjo player Ustad Noor Bakhsh, Lahore’s jazz/hip-hop fusion group Jaubi, renowned singer Natasha Noorani, Islamabad’s singer-songwriter Natasha Ejaz, DJ Osama Khan alias Ozzie, among several others.

All artists involved took to their social media handles to share the poster featuring the line-up, which sees a blue and pink truck art inspired digital artwork that reads, "Dekh magar pyar se [look, but with love]," a saying often found on public transport vehicles in Pakistan.

Noorani penned how grateful she is to witness and be a part of this "milestone moment" for the Pakistani music industry. “And what a pleasure to be able to do it alongside my friends,” she added. While Ejaz wrote, “Mama Baba that's my name on something I never in my wildest dreams imagined I'd have my name on.” DJ Ozzie penned, “This one is for all the believers. Historic moment for the Pakistan underground scene, I'm beyond grateful and honoured to be a part of it. This alone gives us so much hope. Ma, your boy is going places.”

Other than Pakistan, Boiler Room will broadcast from Paris for two days on July 8 and 9 with artists from the city. They also have broadcasts scheduled in Vienna, Tbilisi, Warsaw, New York, Los Angeles, Stuttgart, Boston and London.
