Forest dept to plant 200k trees

Punjab forest dept allocated budget of Rs4.5 billion for next fiscal, which is Rs500 million more than outgoing year

The Punjab Forest Department has been allocated a budget of Rs4.5 billion for the next financial year, which is Rs500 million more than the outgoing year.

The department has set a target of planting 200,000 trees across the province under the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Programme in the new financial year.

Completion of the Dargai Gul, Kundian and Pubi forest parks and setting up a Forest Complex on Ravi Road are among the plans.

The department will also launch a programme to increase the number of nurseries.

Solar pumps will be installed in Depalpur, while rehabilitation of the forest ecosystem has also been included in the Annual Development Programme (ADP).

According to the department, tree planting campaigns will be organised throughout the year and a strategy has been formulated to achieve the targets.

On the other hand, Rs990 million has been allocated for wildlife and Rs1.1 billion for fisheries development.
