Province of Punjab is facing a severe shortage of diesel in the rural areas of central and south Punjab and in result farmers suffered and their crops couldn’t irrigated properly, if this situation continues Punjab could face a agriculture downfall in major crops. FPCCI Standing Commitee on Agriculture former chairman, Ahmad Jawad highlighted that irrigation canals have already been dried out and farmers compelled to operate tube wells as an alternative to save their crops but since last couple of days acute deficit of diesel is witnessed, reflecting a worrying situation for the farming community. Jawad blamed the oil marketing companies and filling station owners for not supplying diesel to the customers despite having sufficient stocks. Regarding the issue, Punjab chief secretary is to take action for ensuring availability of diesel on filling stations especially in rural areas through assistant commissioners.
