ISLAMABAD:

The PTI counsel on Wednesday maintained that the party had no foreign bank account and that all the donors abroad deposited funds through the agents.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) heard the PTI foreign funding case under the chairmanship of the chief election commissioner.

Sindh commission member Nisar Durrani said that party’s donors’ names looked vague. He said names such as Muhammad J and such were not commonly heard.

PTI’s financial expert maintained that the language and accent of many Pakistanis changed when they go abroad, adding that many people were known by other names than their real ones.

The ECP asked why the CNICs of the people whose names were mentioned not written.

The PTI counsel pointed out that the ECP had made the donors’ CNICs and mobile numbers mandatory in 2018.

He said the registration of names confirmed that necessary details of donors were kept from the very beginning and added that any Pakistani could deposit funds in the bank in the form of cash.

He said the donors abroad deposited funds through the agents.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till Tuesday.
