The general public on Tuesday reeled under the 12-hour-long prolonged power outages as the electricity shortfall increased to 6,690 megawatts.
The Power Division recorded the total power generation capacity at 19,310MW against the demand from 26,000MW.
According to Power Division sources, 4,855MW was being generated from hydropower plants, 1,205MW from government thermal plants, 9,323MW from private sector power plants, 1,398MW from wind power plants, 111MW from solar plants and 164MW from Bagasse. Sources said that 2,254MW of electricity was being generated from nuclear fuel.
They said decreased power generation has also led to an increase in unannounced load-shedding period, with 10 hours in urban areas and 12 hours in rural areas.
