President Arif Alvi on Sunday felicitated the newly elected body of the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE).
He congratulated its newly elected President Kazim Khan, General Secretary Mian Amir Mahmood, Senior Vice President Ayaz Khan, Deputy Secretary General Yousuf Nizami, Finance Secretary Ghulam Nabi Chandio, Information Secretary Zubair Mehmood, Sindh Vice President Dr Jabbar Khattak, Sindh Joint Secretary Maqsood Yousufi, Punjab Vice President Haider Amin, Islamabad Vice President Salman Masood, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Vice President Tahir Farooque and Balochistan Vice President Arif Baloch.
The president hoped that the newly elected leadership of CPNE would play its role in curbing the publication and promotion of fake and unconfirmed news.
He added that the young generation needed to be made aware of the positive use of social media and the imparted the ability to recognise fake news.
Alvi stressed the need for the media to play its role under the leadership of the CPNE to create awareness about the welfare of disabled people and women's rights.
“The media should promote high moral values and Islamic teachings to eradicate social evils,” the president added.

Alvi hoped that the new leadership of the CPNE would fulfill its social responsibilities to the fullest.
Separately, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, who is also chairman of the PPP, also extended his best wishes to the new body of the CPNE.
Besides the CPNE top leadership, Bilawal also felicitated the CPNE’s standing committee of 44 newly elected members.
He expressed his fervent hope that the role of the CPNE towards cementing democracy and the freedom of press would be commendable as was the history of the body and it would fulfill its responsibilities
“The PPP believes in the freedom of media. It will extend all possible cooperation to the CPNE for ensuring freedom of expression and press in the country and development of dynamic media,” he added.
