Reasons for decline in social values highlighted

The Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, Pakistan Council of Media Women and PFUJ jointly organised a discussion on 'Decline of Social Values and Role of Women in Society' at the Arts Council.

Sindh Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon was the chief guest at the event.

ACP President Muhammad Ahmad Shah; Senator, Abdul Haseeb Khan; SP Investigation Central, Shehla Qureshi; PFUJ President, G.M. Jamali; and many prominent personalities took part in the discussion and came up with their valuable views.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharjeel Memon said the role of government and media is very important to raise awareness regarding social values. He said, "There are many reasons that lead to the decline in social values. For example, a child learns from home, school and from friends. But, unfortunately we do not pay due attention to our children because of our busy schedule. Also, there are advantages and disadvantages of technology. Social media, television serials and their characters leave impact on our mind, it may be negative as well as positive. Therefore, there is a need to raise awareness on what is right and what is wrong."

Taking part in the discussion, SP Investigation Central, Shehla Qureshi said, "Learning begins at home. First eight years of the age are very crucial for children. There is a need to give them right training and guidance during this period and so the role of women is important in this regard to create a better society."

PFUJ President GM Jamali said, "We have run out of tolerance. As a result we use foul language at different stages including social media. In this regard, women can play important role to stop this menace by refraining children from using bad words. Also, it is our collective responsibility to take steps for the betterment of society. As we know, good words and politeness can create a good society with better environment."

Moneeza Siddiqui said that men and women can create a better society." Pakistan Council of Media Women President, Humaira Motala was the event’s moderator.
