ISLAMABAD:

Justice (retd) Ikramullah Khan and Babar Hassan Bharwana have been appointed as member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and member Punjab, respectively.

A meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of Election Commission Members was held under the chairmanship of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, during which the appointments for the K-P and Punjab slots were made.

The meeting was attended by six representatives of the government and the opposition.

A day ago, approval was granted to make Sadiq the chairman of the committee.

It is worth mentioning here that former members Punjab Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi and Irshad Qureshi had retired on July 25 last year.

The electoral watchdog remained incomplete for a little less than a year as the appointments were made after a lapse of 10 months, when the law requires a replacement to be appointed within 45 days of the outgoing official’s retirement.
