Kelli Worst was saved by iPhone SOS feature when she was being assaulted by a man who asked her to help him find his phone at 2:00 am on the beach.
The man tackled her to the ground, covering her mouth and nose, and pinning her face down in the sand. Worst had reached out for her iPhone and activated the SOS feature by pressing and holding the side button and volume button, and then swiping across. The phone placed a call to 911 automatically. The emergency services were able to hear everything that was happening and send help immediately. The man attempted to run when officers arrived at the scene.
While speaking to Wavy, Worst said "My phone in my hand and knowing how to activate the SOS feature is what saved my life."
How can you set up the iPhone SOS feature?
The common way to activate this feature is holding the side button along with the volume key, which will display the “Emergency SOS” option on the screen. You will have to swipe the option to make a call to emergency services.
In Settings, you can set up Auto Call, through Emergency SOS and then SOS settings.
When the countdown is completed, the device will place an automatic call. You can even change the activation feature to “Call with 5 Presses” in Settings.
