Tarar appointed leader of house in Senate
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar was appointed as the leader of the house in the Senate on Monday, according to a notification issued by the Senate Secretariat.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who also heads the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, nominated Tarar as the leader of the upper house.
The appointment comes after PTI Senator Dr Shahzad Waseem – previously leader of the house – was notified as leader of the opposition in the Senate last month following the ouster of Imran Khan’s government.
Tarar has been serving as the federal minister of law and justice since 19 April 2022 and has also served as a vice chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), the regulatory body of lawyers.
He was elected senator for the first time last year on a seat reserved for technocrats and was among the 11 senators who had been elected unopposed from Punjab.
