LAHORE:

The government and the PTI on Tuesday accused each other for the killing of a policeman during a raid at a residence in Lahore which coincided with the crackdown on former ruling party’s leaders residences ahead of the party’s planned long march to Islamabad on May 25 (today).

On late Monday night, constable Kamal Ahmed was shot dead when a bullet fired from a rooftop hit him, according to reports by a department official residing in the locality. Police had taken two people into custody.

Taking notice of the incident, Interior minister Rana Sanaullah Khan said the occurrence was a "proof that Imran Khan is a terrorist. Kamal Ahmed's killers are Imran Khan, Sheikh Rashid and his followers".

In a statement, the minister accused PTI leaders of conspiring toward a "bloody march" and inciting civil war, claiming that the ousted government would be held accountable for their "crimes”.

"The firing on the police has proved that this is not a political activity, it is proof that they do not want a peaceful march," Sanaullah added.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, in response to the accusations levelled against the party, stated that Sanaullah and Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz were responsible for the demise of the constable.

Fawad stated that the incumbent government was responsible for the raids which resulted in the unfortunate death.

Taking to his official Twitter account, the PTI leader responded to PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, saying the "murder trial will be another addition to your family's crimes. Using the police for illegal raids and for political purposes is a crime."

Naeem Khan Kansas. US | 2 years ago | Reply I live in a Democratic country where Pakistan is not. I own a gun and if some one enters my house by breaking in the door you better believe it there will be some one dead on arrival. Police entering some ones house without any legal arrest warrant and breaking in should know better that people do have the right to defend their families. Too sad that this police officer has lost his life and was obeying illegal orders by some corrupt politician. Unfortunately it is the low ranking police officers who pay the price mostly by their lives for illegal orders by their superiors . My condolences to the bereaved family.
