BRUSSELS:

Federal Minister for Commerce and Investment Syed Naveed Qamar visited Brussels on Monday. He held meetings with key members of the European Parliament, senior officials at the European Commission and secretary of state for the Brussels region. In his engagements, the minister underscored that strong trade and investment cooperation was an important component of the Pakistan-EU strategic partnership. Qamar highlighted that the GSP Plus was a success story of mutually beneficial cooperation, as Pakistan’s exports to the EU increased 86% and EU’s exports to Pakistan grew 69%, since the inception of the scheme in 2014. He was hopeful that the new GSP Plus regulation would continue to focus on the central tenets of supporting sustainable development and poverty alleviation in the beneficiary countries.
