PML-N, PTI issued notices for intra-party polls

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday issued a show-cause notice to PM Shehbaz Sharif for not holding intra-party elections in his party, the PML-N.

Similarly, the commission issued a final notice to the PTI to hold the polls within the scheduled time.

The PML-N was scheduled to hold intra-party elections on March 13, 2022. At the party’s request, the ECP had extended this deadline till May 14. In the notice, the commission asked the PML-N why it should not declare the party ineligible for an election symbol. It added that the party was yet to issue its certificate of intra-party elections to the ECP.

According to the notice sent to the PTI, the commission said it had accepted the party’s request to extend its deadline for intra-party elections till June 13, 2022.

The ECP under Section 215 (4) has issued show-cause notices to the following political parties for not holding intra-party polls and violating Sections 209 and 210 of the Election Act, warning them that they would be disqualified for an election symbol: (1) Paki Kisan Ittehad (Ch Anwar), (2) PTI (Gulalai) (3) Pakistan Qaumi Yekjehati Party (4) Mohab-e-Watan Naujawan Ki Anjuman (5) Muttahida Ulema Mashaikh Council of Pakistan (6) Pakistan Aman Party (7) Sunni Itethad Council (8) Sunni Tehreek (9) Aam Aadmi Tehreek Pakistan (10) All Pakistan Tehreek and (11) Pakistan Human Rights Party.
