ISLAMABAD:

After many days of shortage, the national production of electricity surpassed the daily demand on Monday, with the total generation reaching 21,500 megawatts, Minister for Power Khurrum Dastagir Khan informed the National Assembly.

Responding to calling-attention notices from Aliya Kamran and others regarding unannounced power load-shedding in Balochistan, the minister said that the government believed in providing electricity to all the provinces without any discrimination.

“On Monday, 21,500 megawatts of electricity was produced, which is more than our demand,” the minister said. “There is zero load-shedding on feeders with 80% recovery and less losses,” he said, according to Radio Pakistan. He assured that maximum electricity would be provided to Balochistan.

The minister asked the lawmakers to convey to the quarters concerned if they find any unscheduled load-shedding, saying that directions had already been given to the distribution companies that electricity supply should not be disrupted on technical grounds.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif told the house that the decision about the leader of the opposition and the new chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) would be taken in a couple of days. He added that the tradition of declaring political opponents as traitors should be stopped.
