Model shot dead after rejecting marriage proposal

LAHORE:

A 24-year-old model was shot dead on Friday allegedly by her friend after she refused to marry him, police said.

The suspect, Suleman Nawaz, had been in a relationship with the victim, Samia Nawaz, they said.

The SP of Cantonment stated that Suleman wanted to marry her.

However, she rejected his proposal, and Suleman shot her in the head, killing her instantly, he said.

Police arrested the suspect and registered a case upon a complaint by Samia’s father. The victim was a resident of Baghbanpura.

The incident has occurred exactly a week after the killing of Sidra Khalid, a 22-year-old model, who had allegedly been killed by her brother in Okara.

After completing her graduation, Sidra had done modeling assignments in Islamabad, Karachi and Faisalabad in the last four years. A relative said the family deemed the profession of the deceased as against their traditions.

Sidra had returned home for Eid from Faisalabad, where she worked as a model. While at home, Sidra’s family pressured her to quit her job as a model, to which she refused.

Following a heated argument, she was allegedly shot dead by her brother, Hamza.
