KARACHI:

An automaker based in Pakistan has begun vehicle export under the new Auto Industry Development and Export Policy (AIDEP 2021-26).

It has become the first auto manufacturer in Pakistan that has started exporting under the new policy.

As part of the policy, all original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are required to initiate vehicle exports to help develop the domestic industry and expand export capability of the country.

The country’s first export unit under the new policy is Changan Oshan X7 produced by Master Changan Motors. Pakistan is the only country outside of China that has produced the latest model of Changan Oshan X7, which was launched in March 2022.

The first unit was exported to a market in the Oceania region and the announcement was made at a ceremony at Master Changan’s plant in Karachi.

“We are delighted and proud to lead Pakistan into a new chapter for the auto industry and make its mark on a global level,” Danial Malik, CEO of Master Changan Motors, said while speaking on the occasion.

“Changan Oshan X7 is the first of many more vehicles to be exported under our vision to stay ‘Future Forward Forever’ and the Auto Industry Development and Export Policy 2021-26.”

Master Changan is not only building vehicles of international-level quality, design and safety features but has also stayed true to its vision of becoming the right-hand drive (RHD) export hub of Changan vehicles from Pakistan to the world.

Pakistan is Changan’s first and only RHD manufacturing base and is helping the brand expand globally. The state-of-the-art plant has the capacity to produce 50,000 vehicles annually.

“Master Changan is our first RHD production base and we are very happy to export our RHD Oshan X7 SUV from Pakistan,” Steven Zhao, Vice CEO of Master Changan Motors, said.
