Police blame driver for accident, say he reportedly fell asleep

A car crash took place when a driver fell asleep in the jurisdiction of Saddar Hassanabdal police station on Motorway M1 near Burhan Interchange on Monday.

Tehsildar Attock Irshadullah, who was riding in the car, was badly injured while driver Wali Muhammad suffered minor injuries.

The injured were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Hassanabdal by ambulance, where Tehsildar Irshadullah succumbed to his injuries. Motorway police were on the spot immediately to pull the injured out of the vehicle. The driver named Wali Mohammad was referred to Rawalpindi after receiving medical treatment.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Motorway Police Muhammad Imran Attari reached the spot with his team. DSP Attari said the accident happened because the driver fell asleep and a written complaint has been submitted to the Saddar Hassanabdal Police Station by the Motorway Police for registration of FIR.

However, it is being said that the family members do not want to take any action against the driver.

Meanwhile, a rickshaw full of school children collided with a steel fence near bus stand Hassan Abdal. As a result, two female teachers including the rickshaw driver were injured. They were immediately shifted to THQ Hospital Hassan Abdal

According to hospital sources, the rickshaw driver's leg and a female teacher's arm were broken. They were referred to a hospital in Rawalpindi.

Some children suffered minor injuries in the accident who have been discharged after receiving medical treatment.
