Sindh drying up for want of water: Dharejo

KARACHI:

Provincial Minister for Industries & Commerce and Cooperative Department Jam Ikramullah Dharejo has expressed concern over the acute shortage of water in Sindh and said that Sindh province is facing severe shortage of canal water.

Under 1991 Accord, Sindh should be given its due share of water immediately.

"In this regard a meeting of the competent body of canal water 'Irsa' should be convened without any delay so that the agreement can be implemented in letter and spirit," he added.

Provincial minister said that the 'B.S Feeder' canal from Guddu Barrage on the Indus River has been closed due to which farmers in most of the districts of Sindh are facing severe difficulties.

Farmers would face severe crises and food shortages, therefore the implementation of the 1991 agreement is a matter of time, Dharejo said adding that in the past injustice was committed against Sindh on the issue of water. Now a solution to the problem should be found and the grievances of the people of Sindh province should be redressed.

Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Industries & Commerce and Cooperative Department, Jam Ikramullah Dharejo, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Religious Affairs, Zakat and Ushr Fayyaz Ali Butt, Sadiq Ali Memon and Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar have expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former Member Sindh Assembly and President PPP Sukkur Division, Haji Anwar Khan Mahar.

In their condolence messages, they paid homage to the services rendered by the deceased and prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in peace and give courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss.
