Heatwave alert for central, northern Sindh

Karachi, Thatta, Badin to remain safe from extreme hot spell

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued heatwave alert in central and northern districts of Sindh, however, it will not affect Karachi and the southern districts of Thatta, Badin and Sujawal.

According to PMD Early Warning Center, a severe heatwave is expected in Sindh from today on Saturday till next one week.

PMD said that during this hot spell the day time temperature could shoot to 46 to 48 degrees Celsius in Dadu, Jacobabad, Larkana, Sukkur, Khairpur, Ghotki, Nowshero Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad. Extraordinarily hot and dry weather conditions may affect vegetables and orchards, the weather aler said adding that the farmers are advised to manage their crops accordingly. The advisory said that hot weather will increase use of air conditioners, air coolers and fans leading to increase in energy demand and possible breakdown of electricity supply system.

"The public is advised to refrain from going out during the heatwave from 11a.m. to 4pm," PMD said. The alert has not raised any concerns regarding heatwave in Karachi, which is likely to expect temperatures in mid-30s ranging from 34 degrees Celsius to 36 degrees Celsius. The weather will remain hot and humid in the port city for the next three days.
