Taz from Stereo Nation fame passes away

The pop singer, known for creating British-Asian fusion, was 54

A 90s pop sensation, singer Tarsame Singh Saini, popularly known as Taz from Stereo Nation breathed his last in a hospital on Friday, April 29, his family confirmed in a statement. As per reports, the singer suffered a liver failure following which, he slipped into a coma. He was 54.

The Gallan Goriyan singer was reportedly suffering from a hernia and was due to have surgery two years ago, but was then postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. His deteriorating health led him to a coma earlier this year, then as of early March 2022, he even showed signs of improvement.

On March 23 last month, the official page of Taz's band Stereo Nation shared an update about improvement in his health.

A note shared by the account read, “Dear All, Taz Sir is no longer in a coma, He’s showing improvements every day. The family has thanked everyone for their support and prayers during this difficult time. When there is more positive news, The family will let us all know. Thanks again for your positive thoughts.” However, he couldn’t fight it any longer.

Honouring the musical genius that he was, tributes and messages of condolences poured in immediately after the news of his death by fans and fellow industry colleagues. Indian singer Bally Sagoo shared a picture with the late singer on Twitter and wrote, "RIP brother. You will truly be missed."

Taz also went with the stage name Johnny Zee at a time. The pop singer rose to fame in 1989 with his album Hit The Deck. Some of his popular hits include Pyar Ho Gaya, Nachengeh Sari Raat, and Gallan Goriyan. He also sang for films including Daru Vich Pyar for the 2001 film Tum Bin, It’s magic for the Hrithik Roshan Starrer Koi Mil Gaya and Mujhpe To Jadoo for the Saif Ali Khan starrer Race. He was known for creating Asian fusion music.
