Lahore’s new CCPO takes charge

DIG Bilal Kamyana is the sixth officer to hold the position since 2018

DIG Bilal Siddique Kamyana has been appointed the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore. The appointment was made on the day a sensitive session of Punjab Assembly had been called in.

He replaced the outgoing Fayyaz Ahmad Dev, who was transferred from the post several days ago and is the sixth City Police Chief to be appointed since Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) were elected to power in 2018.

Additional IG BA Nasir was appointed as CCPO Lahore during interim government set up, however he continued as CCPO for many months after PTI government. He was replaced by Zulfiqar Hameed, who in turn was followed by Umar Sheikh. In the New Year, Sheikh was replaced by Ghulam Mehmood Dogar.

On Thursday, Kamyana assumed charge of the post after his notification was issued by the Punjab Government.

An Old Ravian, Kamyana hails from Sahiwal and belongs to 24th Common of Police Service of Pakistan. He served at numerous key posts as RPO Faisalabad and Sheikhupura regions, CPO Rawalpindi, DPO Sialkot, Narowal and Okara, DIG R&D CPO, DIG SPU, SSP CTD and other high ranking positions. Kamyana also has experience working in the Provincial metropolis as SP in Operations, Investigation and Security wings.

CCPO Kamyana, after assuming charge of his office, held an important meeting with all the senior officers of Lahore police including DIG Investigation, DIG Operations, CTO Lahore, SSPs and other related officers.

He also held an introductory meeting with the section heads of different branches of Capital City Police Headquarters. On his new responsibilities, CCPO Kamyana has committed to resolving the problems of citizens by providing justice to them at Police Stations. "Maintenance of law and order, free registration of FIRs, merit based transparent investigation along with crime control are my top priorities", he stated.

The CCPO further said that he would also take all possible measures for the welfare of Police officers and officials, along with families of the martyrs. He said he would utilize all resources to give relief to the people, along with developing a comprehensive plan to improve morale in the ranks and build a positive image of the department, as well as improve conditions in Police Stations. "It is our mission to make Lahore the center of peace, so people can live their lives calmly and with a complete sense of protection," Kamyana vowed.
