Child killings are unfortunately not a new occurrence in Punjab. In March 2022, a man allegedly shot his 7-day-old daughter dead, citing her gender as the motive behind the heinous act. According to reports, the alleged perpetrator shot the victim 4 times and was, according to family members, ‘humiliated’ that his wife gave birth to a girl. In a separate incident in the same month, a woman and her three children were beaten to death by an alleged home invader, reportedly a relative, in their house in Gujarat. According to details, the suspect was a relative engaged in a property dispute with the children’s father. The suspect, Safdar Hussain, was arrested by police.
