KARACHI:

West Division Police and Korangi Police arrested 18 suspects during the operations and recovered stolen motorcycles, hazardous gutka, mawa and other items from their possession.

"The West Division Police have arrested 11 suspects in the last ten days of Ramazan in a crackdown on street crimes and other crimes," said SSP West Farrukh Raza.

In the sprawling slum of Orangi Town, the Pakistan Bazaar police arrested Manzooran Begum and her two accomplices, Khadim Hussain and Dil Muhammad. All three were fugitives in an armed robbery case. In another operation, police arrested motorcycle lifters Kashif and Wasim, along with two stolen motorcycles. The motorcycles recovered from the arrested suspects bear registration Nos. KHD-7600 and KHC-6323.

They stole both the motorcycles from the limits of the Pakistan Bazar police station. Manghopir police arrested gutka seller Muhammad Naseer and recovered 183 packets of gutka and mawa from his possession. Meanwhile, five suspects involved in the theft, including Aziz, Rasool Bakhsh, Qadir Bakhsh, Qurban and Gul Sher, were arrested along with the case property. Officers are investigating the detained suspects and registered cases in the concerned police stations. The SSP said that effective action would be taken in the future. Korangi police arrested seven suspects.

A Karachi police spokesperson claimed that the police carried out the operation against gamblers and snooker players. They recovered cash at stake from the arrested suspects. However, residents of the area say that gambling, betting on the carom, snooker games, and other crimes are also being carried out openly under the nose of the Korangi police. Criminals are running gutka factories and are selling hazardous gutka in small and big shops and cabins. Whereas the SSP Korangi has maintained a mysterious silence.
