LAHORE:

With the PTI’s public mobilisation campaign going on in full swing, the PML-N too has decided to galvanise its support base by holding around a dozen rallies across the country, apparently entering into a pre-election campaign mode.

The first rally scheduled to be held over the weekend in Sialkot has been postponed till the next month due to the holy month of Ramazan.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz will lead the rallies which according to a federal minister will be held one after another in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.

The PML-N, currently in power at the Centre with the help of several coalition partners after recently dislodging the PTI government through the no-confidence vote, is finding itself beset with problems from all sides.

On the one side is the economic crisis in the country, which requires tough decision making to address it, while on the other is the PTI, which is holding mammoth rallies in major urban centres to build an anti-government sentiment, which is gaining traction among the populace.

“The PML-N will have to expose the ‘lies’ the PTI has been telling to the people day in and day out, and has to tell the people the truth,” nominated federal minister Javed Latif told The Express Tribune.

He maintained that the rallies were meant to lay bare the PTI’s narrative which was built on “lies”, adding that former premier Imran Khan’s corruption cases, his foreign funding case and scandals would be placed before the masses so that they could see for themselves the contradiction in his claims and actions.

He said Imran despite the “undeniable evidence” that proved him wrong, was still peddling the conspiracy theory.

He noted that all the rallies would be led by Maryam since she was the only mainstream party leader that was currently out of power. Besides her, all the party leadership was busy with their government assignments, Latif added.

The PML-N leader observed that the first rally would be held in Okara on May 6, the second in Attock on May 8 while two rallies were planned for K-P later on.

He said after K-P, rallies will be held in Chakwal, Mianwali and Vehari, and later in Bahawalnagar and Karachi.

To a question regarding his differences with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Latif said in the PML-N, they had the liberty to differ even with the party leadership, clarifying that it did not mean that there was a rift between him and the party president.
