The Women University Swabi (WUS) has banned the use of smartphones, mobile phone applications and tablets on its campus.
Talking to The Express Tribune on Wednesday a spokesperson of the WUS said that the decision was taken after they received a lot many complaints including use of phones during classes after which the decision was taken.
“There are other complaints that girls were using different apps especially tiktok and involved in making videos inside the campus instead of focusing on their studies,” he added, saying that the university is a place for academic activities instead of wasting time on smartphones applications and making tiktok videos.
“Therefore a decision has been taken that mobile phones will not be allowed inside classrooms and those who violate the rules will be fined,” he said, adding that there will be absolutely no compromise on the university discipline.
“All those activities and things will be banned which disturb the study and academic atmosphere of the university,” he said.
The notification obtained by The Express Tribune says that the smartphones and tablets would be banned from April 20.
“It has been observed that students use extensive social media applications during university timings which affect their education, behaviour and performance,” says the notification.
The notification warned that in case of violation mobile phones will be confiscated and a fine of Rs5000 will be imposed.
