Afghan refugee gunned down inside mosque

Police said that the victim had already been injured in a previous assassination attempt

Unidentified assailants shot and killed an Afghan refugee inside a mosque in Khalabat on Wednesday.

Police said that the victim had already been injured in a previous assassination attempt.

The perpetrator managed to escape after the incident.

The victim was identified Sakhi Aamir Shah who was attending Taraweeh prayers near the refugee camp in Khalabat Township Chandni Chowk.

A few months ago, seven refugees were killed, and five were injured in a clash between two refugee groups over electricity bills in the same area. The deceased was also among the injured men.

Khalabat police station officers set up blockades and carried out raids to apprehend the suspects responsible for killing Afghan citizens.

Police registered a case and started raids to arrest the accused.

They said that the cause of the murder was old hostility between two groups that wanted to kill each other.

Police shifted the body to the hospital, where postmortem and other necessary legal proceedings were carried out.

Later, the body was handed over to heirs for burial.

In a separate incident, A 17-year-old was shot dead in Nara Amazai area of Ghazi on Wednesday.

Police said that they have not yet determined whether the boy committed suicide or was killed or died in an accident.

The deceased was identified as Hamza Khan, son of Nazir Gul. The body was shifted to a nearby hospital.

The scope of the investigation will be expanded only after receiving the post-mortem report, however, the police have registered a case under section 302.
