KARACHI:

Prominent scholar and Grand Mufti of Pakistan, Mufti Muneebur Rehman, has said that the religious, political and social values of courtesy and mutual respect are declining. "The youth are starting to idolise their political leaders which is a religious and moral dilemma.

"Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is a senior politician; he should to be part of the solution, not part of the problem." Rehman said in a statement that the structural elements of Pakistan's politics have become hatred, disrespect, humiliation of others and biased affiliation with favorite leaders.

"This intense prejudice has blurred the distinction between right, wrong, truth and lies. The new generation of politicians has failed to show political and moral acumen stooping to mudslinging and libel,” he said.

Rehman added there was no senior politician like Nawabzada Nasrullah, who can bring everyone together, in the current political circles. "It is feared that this division and segregation will divide the nation."

Rehman said that wit hatred spawning among the common people and families, "it will be very difficult to form a national body by assembling these scattered pieces."

The religious scholar continued there is a need for a senior politician who can bring together non-controversial and universally accepted scholars, intellectuals, journalists, lawyers and issue a code of conduct.

The grand mufti said that it was unfortunate that everyone has taken a stance in the field of politics and journalism. "In such a case, there is no room for balanced and constructive thinking, the argument becomes not objective, but subjective. In such cases, destruction becomes easy and construction becomes difficult".
