Johnson says he looks forward to working together on areas of shared interest

ISLAMABAD:

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan and expressed his desire to work with the new government in Islamabad in areas of shared interest.

Johnson took to mocroblogging website, Twitter, to felicitate Shehbaz, who assumed the premiership of the country on Monday following ouster of his predecessor Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion in the wee hours of April 10.

“Congratulations to @CMShehbaz on his election as Prime Minister of Pakistan. The UK & Pakistan have a longstanding relationship and our people share deep ties. I look forward to working together on areas of shared interest,” Johnson wrote on his official Twitter handle.

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Christian Turner, shared Johnson’s tweet on his Twitter handle, saying that he looked forward to work with the new government. He also thanked former prime minister Imran Khan for his cooperation with the British High Commission.

“UK & Pakistan matter to each other. I thank @ImranKhanPTI & his government for all their cooperation with @UKinPakistan; and look forward to working with @CMShehbaz & the new government to build on our 75 year strong partnership,” Turner tweeted.
