Industry demands cap on diesel prices

Claims it will facilitate farmers in wheat harvesting season

KARACHI:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif should cap the prices of diesel till the completion of the wheat harvesting season in a bid to facilitate the farmers of the country, said Pakistan Businesses Forum (PBF) Vice President Ahmad Jawad.

“The prime minister should address these issues on priority so that the common man receives relief,” he said in a statement on Tuesday. According to him, appreciation of local currency would prove to be a massive relief for the public.

He also urged the new economic team to revisit the policy of free floating rupee which, according to him, was unsuitable for the nation.

Jawad hoped that the incumbent prime minister would steer the country out of the multi-faceted challenges being confronted by it.

Jawad assured Sharif of best cooperation and assistance in initiating business friendly economic and commercial policies as said that such laws would have direct bearing on trade and industry.

He was optimistic that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif would prioritise urgent economic issues being faced by Pakistan such as inflation and weakening of the rupee.

“It is an inevitable reality that there had been zero increase in average income over the past few years and Pakistan failed to shake off the balance of payment crisis as well,” he said.

Trade with regional countries should prioritised by the new government including Iran and India. Moreover, the second phase of the CPEC should execute speedily, he added.
