KARACHI:

The family of a young man, who died mysteriously in police custody, has demanded that the Tasveer Mahal police check post in charge and Zaman Town SHO be suspended.

It also demanded strict action against the officials. Residents of the area protested against the death of a young man named Abdullah, allegedly by police, at Tasveer Mahal check post in the Zaman Town police jurisdiction.

The protesters rioted and attacked the police station during the demonstration. They set fire to several stolen and case property motorcycles at the check post. Meanwhile, a large contingent of law enforcers arrived at the scene to prevent the rioting and destruction.

Angry protestors also stoned police officers, while the cops launched tear gas shells in response to disperse the mob. Meanwhile, police also arrested seven persons involved in the riot and transferred them to the police station.

A heavy contingent of police and Rangers was deployed in the area and the former managed to control the tense situation after a long struggle. The body of Abdullah, son of Nazir Ahmad, who was allegedly killed as a result of assault by the police, was transferred to Jinnah Hospital for an autopsy.

Outside the medical facility, relatives of the deceased told the media that Abdullah had returned home at noon on Friday after 40 days. He took a motorcycle to walk around the house at 3pm and disappeared soon after.

At around 8pm, Tasveer Mahal Police check post in Zaman Town Police Station called the family to tell them to come and retrieve the child, the relatives said.
