HYDRABAD:

The Sindhi nationalist leaders have welcomed the judgment of the Supreme Court which restored the National Assembly and ordered the speaker to conduct the no confidence vote against the prime minister.

"Today the Supreme Court saved the constitution," said Ayaz Latif Palijo, who heads Qaumi Awami Tehreek and is also general secretary of Grand Democratic Alliance.

"We aren't concerned with who remains in power or comes to power. We just want supremacy of the constitution." He observed that the apex court buried the doctrine of necessity and did not accept any dictation.

He added that instead of taking the controversial paths, the court purely based its order on the provisions of the constitution. "Now the people have started to believe that this country belongs to all the citizens." He expressed hope that adherence to the constitution will pave the way for success and development in the country.

"The court's order isn't the victory of any individual or a particular political party but it's victory of the law and constitution of Pakistan," noted Dr Qadir Magsi, chairman Sindh Taraqi Pasand party. The STP's leader said in order to entrench democracy and ensure the rule of law the elements violating the sanctity of the constitution should be punished.

Magsi, however, termed the agreement between Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan a conspiracy against the interests of Sindh. "We support democracy and rule of the law but we can't tolerate a robbery on Sindh's right in connivance with an ethnic political group." Magsi said MQM-P is mistaken to believe that by striking some agreements with PPP and PML-N the party will fulfill its conspiracy of breaking up Sindh. "Sindh isn't a cake of Bombay Bakery which can be cut into pieces. It's a thousands of years old civilization and the sons of this soil will protect every inch of their motherland."
