Full text of Supreme Court verdict on NA deputy speaker's ruling

Top court reinstates National Assembly and orders voting on no-confidence motion against PM Imran on Saturday

In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday ruled that the National Assembly deputy speaker’s ruling to dismiss the opposition’s no-confidence motion and subsequent dissolution of the lower house by the president on the PM’s advice were contrary to the law and Constitution.

The court has also ordered to reinstate the National Assembly and summon its session at 10.30am on Saturday (April 9) to hold voting on the no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Malik Mushtaq Hussain AWan | 2 years ago | Reply In this case The Honourable SC has set aside the rulling of Depty Speaker. This ruling was in response to a Point of Order raised by Mr. Ch. Fawad Husain the then Minister. In accordance with rule 17 of the rule of business of National Assembly if a point of order is raised then the Speaker has to stop the existing procees and give ruling on Point of Order first which is final. In the SC judgement the point of order has nietgher been discussed nor any order to this aspect has ben passed. So all the proceedings without a rulling on a Point Of Order are under question. A fresh ruling on point of order is necessary to proceed further.
