Turkmenistan intends to boost two-way trade

Turkmenistan is eager to enhance trade ties with Pakistan and both countries have excellent potential to widen trade in many items, said Ambassador of Turkmenistan Atadjan N Movlamov.

Speaking to Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Muhammad Shakeel Munir during his visit to the Embassy of Turkmenistan on Tuesday, he promised that the Turkmen embassy was ready to organise an online business conference between ICCI and business chambers of Turkmenistan.

“The conference will ensure interaction between business communities of both countries so that potential areas of mutual cooperation can be explored,” he added.

The ambassador of Turkmenistan further stated that his embassy would deliver a presentation to the ICCI members about exportable products of Turkmenistan and potential fields of trade cooperation between the two countries.

“Turkmenistan can also supply liquefied natural gas (LPG) to Pakistan to aid the country in meeting its energy needs,” he said.

He exchanged ideas with ICCI president on a range of topics to improve bilateral trade and economic relations between the two sides.

Speaking on the occasion, ICCI President Muhammad Shakeel Munir appreciated the offers laid down by the ambassador of Turkmenistan including the online conference between ICCI and Turkmen chambers and presentation to be delivered to ICCI members.

“These measures will help us in exploring new opportunities of trade promotion between Pakistan and Turkmenistan,” he added. “Being a landlocked country, Turkmenistan can promote its trade and exports through Gwadar and Karachi ports to many countries.”

Citing that Central Asia was an attractive market for Pakistan, he said close cooperation with Turkmenistan would help Pakistan in gaining better access to Central Asian markets.

He also discussed various proposals with the ambassador of Turkmenistan to promote business linkages between the private sectors of both countries in order to explore all untapped areas of bilateral cooperation.

Former ICCI senior vice president Muhammad Naveed Malik also accompanied him on the occasion.
