K-P, OGDC sign deal for dam construction
Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and different departments of the government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the construction of a dam for the Nashpa Greater Water Supply Scheme (NGWSS) in Karak district.
The departments of energy and power, irrigation and public health engineering were among the signatories of the MoU, stated a press release on Tuesday.
The proposed dam will be located 24 kilometres northeast of Karak city. The site is 54 kilometres from Kohat on the Indus highway.
The Nashpa dam project was approved in principle by OGDCL on May 13, 2020 with the condition that necessary analysis and proper estimation/ PC-1 would be shared with the board for formal approval.
Keeping in view the limited technical capacity regarding the construction of the dam, the project in principle was shifted to the government of K-P, which would execute it through its relevant line departments.
The line departments are experienced and technically most suitable to execute the project efficiently and effectively.
In the next phase, the government of K-P will present the final project feasibility along with cost estimates and execution timelines for OGDC’s approval.
Currently, OGDC is providing drinking water through bowzers on a daily basis to meet the requirement of locals of Nashpa area at a cost of Rs16.63 million per year.
